Mechanism of Action
Tirzepatide is unique in activating two incretin receptors simultaneously: GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) and GLP-1. This dual action potentiates insulin secretion, suppresses glucagon, delays gastric emptying, and reduces appetite through action on brain satiety centers. GIP receptor activation adds metabolic benefits beyond what GLP-1 alone provides.

Subcutânea (SC)Dose de titulação
Dose máxima do estudo SURMOUNT-1
Perda de peso média de 20,9% (dose 15 mg) em 72 semanas. Agonista duplo GIP/GLP-1.
Benefits
Superior weight loss
ProvenThe SURMOUNT-1 study demonstrated an average weight loss of 22.5% of body weight at the highest dose (15 mg) over 72 weeks — the greatest ever recorded with a medication.
View studyPotent glycemic control
ProvenIn the SURPASS studies, it reduced HbA1c by up to 2.4%, superior to semaglutide in a direct comparison (SURPASS-2).
View studyImproved sleep apnea
ProvenThe SURMOUNT-OSA study demonstrated a significant reduction in apnea events per hour in patients with obesity and obstructive sleep apnea.
Risks and Side Effects
Nausea
Moderate(25-33% of patients)Most common gastrointestinal effect. Generally transient and dose-dependent.
Diarrhea
Low(17-23% of patients)Second most common gastrointestinal effect.

It's better than Ozempic for weight loss
Partially trueWhat they claim
Tirzepatide is 'turbocharged Ozempic', it loses more weight.
Actual evidence
Indirect comparisons suggest greater weight loss with tirzepatide (22.5% vs 15-17%), but there is no published head-to-head study specifically for obesity. In diabetes, SURPASS-2 showed superiority.
