Urolitina A

IMPORTANT: Urolithin A is not a peptide; it is a metabolite produced by gut microbiota from ellagitannins found in pomegranate, raspberry, strawberry, and walnuts. Only 30-40% of people have the gut bacteria that naturally produce urolithin A — the rest need to supplement. The only compound clinically proven to induce mitophagy (mitochondrial recycling) in humans.

Mechanism of Action

Urolithin A induces mitophagy — the process of selectively recycling damaged mitochondria. Dysfunctional mitochondria accumulate with age, contributing to sarcopenia and metabolic decline. By removing these 'old' mitochondria, urolithin A improves the quality of the mitochondrial pool and cellular function.

Benefits

Mitophagy induction in humans

Proven

The only compound clinically demonstrated to induce mitophagy in humans. A study confirmed increased mitophagy markers in blood after 28 days.

Mitochondrial health

Under research

Improves markers of mitochondrial function and biogenesis in clinical studies.

Risks and Side Effects

Favorable safety profile

Low(Rare)

Clinical studies show an excellent safety profile. Adverse events are rare and mild (gastrointestinal).

High cost

Low(N/A)

Mitopure (the only clinically studied form) has significant cost, equivalent to $60-90/month.

Muscle longevity pill

Partially true

What they claim

Urolithin A gives you young muscles without working out.

Actual evidence

Improves mitochondrial function and muscle markers, but does not replace exercise. Benefits are modest (approximately 12% improvement in muscle endurance). Not magic.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I obtain urolithin A naturally?

Only 30-40% of people have the gut microbiota capable of converting ellagitannins (from pomegranate, walnuts, raspberries) into urolithin A. For the other 60-70%, direct supplementation is the only way to obtain it. A urine test can determine whether you are a natural producer.
